Let's get the glamour out of the way...

Incontinence is an unavoidable byproduct of aging and we definitely have that in our household, and because our dogs are so close in age, we are lucky to have double the fun, yay! We actually purchased these diapers a couple of years ago when we first started to notice beginning signs of it and initially they were used very sparsely, but we are now at a point of almost full time usage.

Different dogs means different issues, and we're learning that not all incontinence is alike. Jasper, who is younger by 8 months, has the more of your everyday garden variety type of incontinence. It only occurs when he's deep asleep when his muscles are relaxed, and then it drips like a leaky faucet. Sometimes, it's only a few drops, and some mornings we find the diaper quite substantial in weight. It now happens while he's napping during daytime as well, so he's pretty much wearing the diaper full time at this point.

Misty on the other hand, actually has quite an impressive bladder control for almost a 14 year old and most nights can hold for close to 10 hours. She's only had a few accidents to this day and that was when she was sick with herniated disc or bouts of bladder infections. Her main issue and the reason for having the diaper on is for...#2. Misty's bowel movements are one of the biggest challenges we face and a huge source of stress on many different levels. It's certainly a topic worthy of a separate post...or ten. So, more on that on a different day.

They do look quite adorable in their diapers though, don't they? 😚❤️❤️

  1. Hi, it's Stephanie from Flickr (sgv photography), I thought I'd stop by to read your blog, very interesting btw :). We have diapers & belly bands here too with older dogs and rescues who are 80% of the time housebroke (hard to lose the bad habits when they spent so many years in filthy kennels...). Anyway, we have to do whatever is needed to keep a clean house and when it's in style, we cannot complain ;). They wear it well!
